Introduction
Biolistics, or the gene gun method, introduces alien DNA into plant cells by bombarding them with tiny metal particles coated with DNA.

Method (NCERT): plant cells are bombarded with high-velocity micro-particles of gold or tungsten coated with DNA. This method is suitable for plants. Other methods: micro-injection — directly injecting recombinant DNA into the nucleus of an animal cell; disarmed pathogen vectors (Agrobacterium, retroviruses); and, for bacteria, making cells competent with divalent cations (calcium) followed by heat shock.
