RCH திட்டங்கள்
RCH Programmes
RCH (Reproductive and Child Health Care)
Introduction
India's Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) Programme (launched 1997) integrates family planning, maternal health (antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal care), child health (immunization, nutrition, IMNCI), and reproductive tract infection (RTI/STI) services into a unified approach.
Core concept
Components: Maternal health: Antenatal care (ANC): 4+ ANC visits, iron-folic acid supplements, tetanus toxoid. Institutional delivery (government incentives: JSY, JSSK). Postnatal care. Newborn and child health: IMNCI (Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness). Immunization: BCG, polio, DPT, hepatitis B, measles, etc. SNCU (Special Newborn Care Units). Family planning: counseling, spacing, terminal methods. RTI/STI services: STI clinics, treatment. Population stabilization: promoting small family norms, delaying marriage, education for girls. National initiatives under RCH: JSY (Janani Suraksha Yojana): cash incentive for institutional delivery. JSSK (Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram): free services for mother + baby. Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan: free ANC on 9th of every month.
Go deeper
India's family planning goals: National Population Policy 2000 target: achieve TFR of 2.1 (replacement level) by 2010 — missed but significant progress. SRS 2019-21: national TFR ~2.0 (below replacement). 19 states already below replacement level. Bihar, UP still above 3. Population of India will continue to grow due to 'population momentum' (large young population). India surpassed China as world's most populous country (2023).
From Class 10
